To Bosch sustainability means acting in an economically, ecologically, and socially responsible manner. By acting responsibly, they want to improve people’s quality of life and safeguard the livelihoods of present and future generations.

Bosch has set ambitious goals in environmental protection. They have been working to reduce their ecological footprint for many years. Their special focus lies on climate action, circular economy, and the diligent use of water.

Since 2020, the Bosch Group with its more than 400 locations worldwide has been climate neutral (scopes 1 and 2). An independent auditing company has officially confirmed this. But that's not all: Bosch want to shape climate action beyond their immediate sphere of influence and also systematically reduce upstream and downstream emissions (scope 3), which they aim to reduce by 15 percent by 2030.

Climate neutrality refers to the energy generate by themselves and the volume we purchase for manufacturing, development, and administration (scopes 1 and 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, GHG). This is where we can directly influence the reduction of greenhouse gases and make a big impact in a short time. Upstream emissions in the Bosch value chain primarily concern purchased goods and services as well as logistics. Downstream emissions are mainly caused using their products.

The tree planting initiative
In connection to a social media campaign regarding re-manufacturing of starters and alternators by circulating the old and used core units, the automotive aftermarket division in Nordic has decided to plant 9,000 Balsa trees in Ecuador through Growing Trees Network Foundation. The trees are planted on discontinued farmland with the Shuar Indians in Ecuadorian Amazonas. Balsa tree is a very lightweight, flexible, and strong material used in e.g., the windmill industry, yacht building and others. Sustainably grown the balsa tree plantations will protect the original rain forest from destructive behaviour by limiting the search for and cutting down of balsa trees.

The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its roughly 440 subsidiary and regional companies in some 60 countries and  employs roughly 395,000 associates worldwide (as of December 31, 2020).
